Im going on a blackfish trip next month i never jigged for them before. Can they be jigged for in the spring or is it only good to jig for them in the fall and winter?

I wish we had a spring season here in NY to be able to answer that question for you.

I recall years ago, sharpies said you wanted to use soft baits in the spring. If your fishing in shallower water (shallow enough for the game weights), you can probably use clam baits on a jig.

I love to Jig for them in the spring and use crab and clams they work great too,one thing "We call jigging" because We are using a jig,but don't try to jig like you do it for Flukes or Bluefish,Just race the arm and let it go slow to the bottom, let it stay there few minutes and do it again, also you can feed the line letting go few feet and stop, must of the time You will feel the bite going down ,let the fish take it and strike...Good Luck...;).Fred.
