Well, with the May 1st fluke opening fast upon us, has anyone heard reports on whether squid have invaded the normal haunts on the North Fork? Water is no doubt very cold yet, but with the squid so come the fish. Thank you.

Not really. Im out here. Some reports of them spotted around the oil platform in the sound. Nothing in the bay except a few single ones caught in some traps.

Anything going out there? I'm going to my NF place on Saturday...I'll fish even if the bay is empty...but it's nice to have hope.

Default anything going on out there

Well, there will not be much to keep on Saturday if you do go, but depending on what bites; let us know. If your fishing for black backs I'll tell you now how you did before you do it. Rather sad as it was once a great area to fish for them. I did hear of a few weakfish around, but not much of anything else. Going to be a bit warmer so we will have to wait and see. No matter what it will beat just thinking about it!

Ha Ha.....that's a depressed laugh, because I haven't even attempted to fish for flounder in well over 10 years. Probably 15. I literally haven't heard of someone catching a flounder out there in all that time. Nah, I'll be casting shads in the channel for schoolies. In a normal year,by the last days of April, there would be lots of schoolies, some good sized, with a real possibility of a keeper...and frequently, the first bluefish. Now...I'll be happy with a few hits and a rat, and maybe a bunker to snag for the freezer.

There are schoolies in RI, no reason they shouldn't be on the north fork.

Default Squid and Fluke

Good luck with the Bass......soon enough. I just hope the squid shows and the water warms up soon! Should be a good year.
