A beautiful day today but a slow pick. A couple of more days like today should get the fish moving.

Finally a decent weekend weather wise. Saturday & Sunday bass were caught at 2nd wantagh bridge on bellies last of the outgoing tide. Paul Kubilus started his season with a 34" bass. The Long dock in Massapequa also produced fish on bellies all shorts but lots of action. A few anglers tried State boat channel around Tobay area pole 24 but had no success. However Eric Rothstein trolled yellow tubes with a blue back shad catching 4 bass to 30" and 2 bluefish (all fish were caught on the shad) in the sbc just west of the Lindenhurst cut. Water temp. was approx. 57-58 degrees. Fluke however was a slow start for opening day a few fish were taken around the 3rd Wantagh bridge to the fishing piers, but all shorts. Some fluke were taken as far north as Massapequa cove off the old Gambino estate. Irwin Marcus reported having 4 shorts to 18"(Jersey keepers) in that area. All the fluke were caught on spearing & squid. We need more sun to warm up the water.

Fluke fishing has picked up in the State Boat channel from Lindenhurst cut to Cedar Beach on spearing & squid combo. Also lots of bluefish in this area. Another productive spot has been Jones Beach fishing peirs to 2nd & 3rd Wantagh bridges. Bass fishing with clam bellies at the 2nd & 3rd Wantagh as well as the Meadowbrook bridge on outgoing tide has produced fish up to 34". Trolling Southbay umbrella rigs in the east west channel from Unqua Point to Tanner Park has also produced fish in the 28" range. Sore Thumb has produce flounder & blowfish on the outgoing tide on sandworms & clams with heavy chum. REMEMBER the more you chum---the more fish will come

Reel solid Bass fishing today on clam bellies at 2nd & 3rd Wantagh bridges as well as the big Robert Moses Bridge. The key was bellies over skimmer clams on the outgoing tide. Most boats had around 15 fish each up to 18 pounds. Bass outside Jones Inlet in the vacinity of Lido Beach(Pink Hotel)fell short today in 40-60' of water, however yesterday trolling & jigging in this same area produced fish to 26 pounds.
Fluke fishing is steadily picking up as bay temperatures hit 60 degrees. Amityville cut to Cedar Beach in the State Boat channel (pole 35-41) has been very productive on spearing & squid with fish up to 4.30 pounds. Massapequa cove also producing fluke as well as both Wantagh bridges.

Congrats Jerry Gralton our newest winner in our FREE WEEKLY FLUKE DERBY Jerry had a 7.32 & 4.44 fluke off Amityville beach yesterday. Both fish were caught on a green Terminator tipped with our own flash frozen spearing & squid. Jerry won $25 worth of Terminators & a Combs hat. Fluke fishing in the SBC from Amityville cut to Lindenhurst cut has been producing a few keepers mixed in with alot of shorts. Jerry Hazelton had a couple of nice fluke 22-24" around pole 38 on the incoming tide on a white bucktail with spearing & squid. Also swift creek & Meadowbrook bridge have produced some keepers. Bass fishing was very good today & yesterday. Don D. was fishing the Robert Moses bridge with clam bellies & had 7 fish from 15-21 pounds on the outgoing tide. Meadowbrook bridge has also been hot with fish to 38". Also alot of bluefish throughout the bay so bring extra hooks

Bass fishing today was very good at Meadowbrook & 2nd Wantagh as well as Zacks bay to pole 17 on the incoming tide with fish to 38" on clam bellies. For those going east Robert Moses bridge was also very productive on bellies. Popping early morning in the SBC produced bass to 38" & also some bluefish. Last night at Fire Islnd Lighthouse the guys had lots of action on Pintails & Bass Assasins with keeper bass and big bluefish. Fluke fishing today produced more keepers to 24" Massapequa Cove to Tanner Park on spearing & squid. Jones & Fire Island inlets also produced keeper fluke on white & green bucktails tipped with spearing & squid.

John Leone was leading our free weekly fluke derby with a 5.48 caught in Massapequa cove on a pearl Terminator rig tipped with spearing & squid, however he was knocked out by Pete Peterson's 6.54 at. the 3rd Wantagh bridge with Peruvian spearing on a Combs special tandem rig, that lead didn't last to long when Steve Hoanacek weighed in a 11.3 pounder. Steve, Dan & Sonny were fishing on Billy Stockert's Romy 3 in Greenport they had 30 fluke with 8 keepers using spearing & squid pink seemed to be the hot color. Dylan McCarthy 13 years old had a 22" 5 pound fluke at the Fire Island Lighthouse inside on spearing & squid. Charlie Martin also had a nice 5 pounder in Massapequa Cove off the Long dock on a green Terminator hi-lo (top hook) with spearing & squid. Bill & Joe Biscardi fished Ocean Beach near bouy 17 had some nice Weakfish up to 4.38. There was plenty of bunker outside Jones inlet from the Pink Hotel to the round house but . very few fish were caught, however trolling Shad rigs in 40-45' produced a lot of fish to 38" everybody had fish.

Fluke fishing outside Jones & Fire Island inlets was slow today with the exception of Reed who had over 50 fish keeping 6 up to 23" southwest of Jones Inlet in 65' water caught on our local spearing. A couple of boats south of blue water tower at Ocean beach in 80' water had nothing but dogfish, they moved back to 35' water to get away from dogfish had nothing but shorts came inside where fishing was much better with more keepers. Lynn Otto had some nice fluke to 4.7 pounds in the east west channel in front of Amityville Beach, also Massapequa Cove showing good action with keepers to 6 pounds around bouy 24. Artie Kaiser fished Squaw Island boated 25 fish keeping 2, his biggest was 5.18 pounds on a white Terminator. Water temps rising so white & green bucktails & Terminators working very well.Bass fishing on bunker pods south of the round house to pink hotel & east of Jones Inlet was a pick, some pods had fish some didn't (remember its a big ocean spread out & find your own pod). Some honorable mentions are Greg LaMarca had a 38 pounder, tying him was Chris Ernest also 38 pounds. Kelly Ann McCann had her 1st keeper weighing in at 35.52 pounds. Peter Devlin had a 26.8 pounder & congrats go out to George Remy of Hicksville had his 1st keeper bass on a Bass Assasin at the Meadowbrook bridge his fish weighed in at 16.28. Also Sarowar Kahn had an 18 pounder on a sandworm in front of Tanner Park early morning
