Default Fluke Regs Update

MAR 31st - NYS DEC COMMISSION GRANNIS - ASFMC IS WILLING TO DISCUSS CHANGES IN 2009 FLUKE REGS
by EC NEWELLMAN » Tue Mar 31, 2009 8:49 pm

Publicly stated by New York State Commissioner Grannis last weekend, ASFMC is now reaching out to NYS as far as the 2009 SUMMER FLOUNDER regulations are concernded.

Commissioner Grannis basically stated that ASFMC is willing to reach an OUT OF COURT settlement concerning the lawsuit brought by UNITED BOATMAN Of NEW YORK!

The Commissioner was extremely frank in discussing that their is now as open dialogue between the ASFMC council and NYS, and their is a very good possibility that the current regs that were just issued last week, will possibly not be the regs for the recreational fishing community for 2009.

The advisory council will now try to come up with a new set of regs where New Yorks anglers MAY see a increase in their bag, decrease in the size, and a change in the seasonal periods as far as opening and closure periods for fluke.

There will be much more to follow up on this issue, but the bottom line is at this time the NYS DEC COMMISSIONER has stated that both the ASFMC and the parties involved in the NYS summer flounder lawsuit are now trying to come up with some workable settlement.

And the Beat Goes On
