GREAT TEACHING,...wow..I'm learning a lot..Thank you Capitan's..one question...any words about jigging for Tog..? ...lol..Fred.

you can jig for tog I actually put time in with Kilsong a few years back when I had him out on my boat and did land some tog on jigs so yea it will work but you wont land as many as a bait fisherman but it is a challenge
I don't know about that. I have caught a lot of tog on jigs. I've had days with Floatstone where we've had close to 40 keeper size tog to 8 lbs between us. We've had days with over 100 fish between us. If you know what you are doing you can land just as many fish on jigs as on bait hooks. Maybe more.

Crab certain times and area will have fishing hitting jigs better and possible to out fish bait which you stated. But nothing beats a fresh local crab that is on the wreck or structure your fishing. Also depends who's on the rod. not a comparison what ever works or produces the most for the time is what you should do.
many times a see jiggers trying to land fish while bait is slaying them. Knowing when to use the better option is the important part

It's very simple. But hard to understand I guess. Everything has a time and place !!

Rigs, drops, sinkers, jigs, bait, dead stick , high stick low stick hand line. Etc,...

But overall, the snafu is the best rig!

I can't fish the western sound the same way I fish the eastern sound. I can't fish the Eastern sound the same way I fish the ocean And so on.

But there are times when I do use my dominant tactics of one area to fish another area. And it works.

Asians worked once or twice for me out to the east. 20-30 ft of water. It out produced greens.

Asians worked a very few times for me in the ocean's shallower drops. Few and far between. And just on one tide. Or one part of one tide.

Greens work everywhere.

Whites work everywhere except western sound... Cause they don't live there. Just in the deeper drops. But I haven't fished it much.

Calicos are crack. They work everywhere. Until they're not available anymore .....But they bite hard and I'm scared of them.

Hermits work everywhere. But not all the time. I've put plenty of hermits down all around the island and greens got hit while the hermit stood there trying to get off the hook and into a shell it spotted

Same thing goes with the rigs ........ One rig works well here. Sometimes there or always everywhere and so on.....

If you fish in only one certain area then figure out what they like there and use it to death!! If that stops working.... Then experiment and change it up and see what they want

this is what makes black fishing so **** exciting! You gotta play with them. Get into there heads (or mouths) and FIGURE IT OUT!!!

Just the other day I fished on the rockaway reef and I started out fishing the normal way I would fish that area. 120 lb test 9/0 hooks and 12 oz sinker with a avet 30 w. (Kidding).

It didn't work but I knew we had fish under the boat. I had the perfect bait. I had the perfect fishing bag that included everything I would need just in case. That's the reason they're in that bag... I re rig. Make adjustments. And 9 keepers later. We have a decent catch on the boat. I find out later on that nite that a few of my friends were there and a few of their friends. And they came back with donuts and munchkins and cold coffee They had the same bait. They had better numbers to fish. But they didn't have my just in case bag.

I wouldn't start fishing like that next time I go there. I will stick to old faithful. And see what I'm working with. And also. .,..... I bet if I was there for the other tide, the fish might have not wanted the same thing.

So we didn't slam them. We didn't beet them up. We simply scratched a decent catch and we were rewarded with black fish dinner. And then finding out how everyone else did is what made it even more sweeter. I figured them out a little bit. And I caught some. That's what it's all about!!
