May 17 from 11 to 3:30 there will be a Paddlecraft (kayaks and canoes) Safety Check, on water demonstrations and an opportunity to paddle (or peddle) the marshes just north of Captree State Park. The event is sponsored by NYS Parks, US Coast Guard, Sea Kayak Skills and Adventures, and a couple of other organizations. It's an opportunity to learn, explore, and meet folks. Bring your boat, PFD and have a great time.

The event is free but you still have to pay the park entry fee like everybody else. Tip of the Day: Get an Empire Passport good for unlimited park admission not just on Long Island but good state wide.

Where are you launching from? The boat ramp?

I believe they will use a launch area near the boat ramp but not the boat ramp itself. The "official" site at Captree Overlook will not be used for this event AFIK.

Default Kayak Safety Check

Just a reminder the Kayak Safety Check is this Saturday 5/18/08 at the Captree from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The KFA-NY will have a table set up at this event, we are encouraging everyone to come to the event and get your kayak inspected and afterward stop by our table and say hi. Hope to see everyone there.
